Most people are sceptical about drinking tap water. They don’t think it is clean & safe, whilst they seem to believe bottled water is. Well, let me tell you that this belief has absolutely no basis.
Although it’s true that the water in some cities may contain some traces pollutants, tap water is one of the most cost-effective, convenient and safe ways to stay hydrated.
On the other hand, it turns out there are a fair number of reasons to resist the temptation of an ice-cold plastic water bottle.
In this blog, I will give you a fair number of good reasons why you should STOP consuming bottled water.

1. Most brands are just selling you tap water

Most people are very dubious about the quality of their tap water and choose bottled water instead, considering it safe.

This opinion about bottled water being safer and healthier than tap water, is completely wrong.

It has been estimated that 25% of bottled water comes straight from the tap and isn’t treated in any way. Bottled water companies create PLASTIC BOTTLES and are good at their marketing skills, making people believe that their product is the best one for humans health.

2. By buying bottled water you are contributing to polluting our Planet

More than 2/3 of bottled water don’t get recycled, leading to 80% of plastic bottled waters end up in landfills

It takes 450 + years for a plastic bottle to decompose. As plastic bottles decompose, harmful chemicals are leached out into the environment, together with thousand of microplastics, entering our food chain.

Studies have shown that the toxins coming out of plastic bottles can cause a number of different health issues, including reproductive and pregnancy problems as well as cancer.

Basically, the easiest way to ensure that plastic bottles don’t end up in our environment is to avoid them in the first place.

3. Bottled water is contaminated

Chemicals leach from the plastic directly into the water you drink. There have also been cases where chlorine, microbes, mold, arsenic and pharmaceuticals were encountered in bottled water.

The worst and most common chemical is BPA. It has been associated with multiple health problems for a pregnant woman leading to a child’s disability at birth. However, a lot of “BPA-free” water bottles have tested positive for other dangerous compounds. So don’t feel like it’s “all good” when you see that “BPA-free” label.

A study showed that over 22% of the bottled water brands tested contained chemical levels above stated health limits. There are regulatory standards limiting the percentage of certain chemicals in tap water but this doesn’t happen for bottled water…

If you want to be healthier it is much better to drink your tap water rather than bottled.

4.Bottled water is expensive

So, not only you are paying for bottled water. You are paying for water that is contaminated due to plastic and also contributes to the world’s pollution. By taking small actions like this, you are contributing to making a change!

How much money do you spend on bottled water each week? Multiply that by 52 weeks (1 year). Yes, you are simply spending your money on something that isn’t good –> wasting your money.

5. Production of bottled water uses lots of energy & water

Plastic bottles require numerous resources to manufacture. Its production, as well as its shipment, leaves an enormous carbon footprint.

Here are a few scary facts for you:

-It takes 7 bottles worth of water to make 1 plastic bottle.
-Plastic water bottles are made from a petroleum product (PET), which requires huge amounts of fossil fuels for production and transport.
-National Geographic estimated that it takes 17 million barrels of oil every year to produce the ‘needed’ water bottles in the USA alone. If you aren’t aware, that is enough to fuel over 100,000 cars for a whole year!
-Compared to tap water, the production of bottled water uses 2000 times the energy necessary for producing tap water.
